Over the years, our biggest concern has been with Milfoil. This past year, Curly Leaf Pondweed sprouted upon us and became the weed to worry about in the Spring and early Summer. Milfoil was less predominant.
We have researched the effectiveness of 2,4 D, Sonar, and Renovate, the three chemicals that can be considered for use in public drinking water. While Sonar is more effective in controlling both Milfoil and Curly Leaf Pondweed, the other two are only effective with Milfoil. In reality, Sonar is not that effective with Curly Leaf Pondweed. It requires a greater concentration of Sonar and treatment too early in the Spring to have a simultaneous impact on milfoil.
